Rocky Point at the western extremity of Elephant Island, at the southern entrance to Emma Cove. Named after
Professor John Croxall CBE, FRS (b. 1946). He is the former Head of Higher Predator Studies and Conservation
Biology at British Antarctic Survey where he led research into the dynamics of Antarctic marine ecosystems,
especially the role of seabirds and marine mammals, and its application in the fields of conservation and
management. He played a major role in developing conservation and management policies and practices for
Southern Ocean resources and biodiversity, especially through SCAR and CCAMLR, leading UK delegations for over
20 years. Elected Fellow of the Royal Society, 2005. Later Chair of Birdlife International’s Global Marine Programme. |
