Peninsula midway along the northern coast of South Georgia, between Stromness Bay to north and Cumberland Bay to south. Bounded to the west by Olsen Valley, the peninsula stretches out approximately 15km, to Larsen Point, which forms the western gatepost of Cumberland Bay. Named after Admiral of the Fleet, Lord Lewin of Greenwich, KG, GCO, LVO, DSC (Terence Thornton Lewin) (1920-1999), Chief of the Defence Staff 1979-1982, member of the War Cabinet during the Falklands conflict, Chairman of the Trustees of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, and President of British Schools Exploring Society. |
